Curated List of Next.js Starters and Boilerplates
Save time searching for actively maintained Next.js starters
I've checked out over 60 Next.js templates and boilerplates to put together a handy list for reference. This should make it easier to spot the top boilerplates that are actively maintained and have solid documentation, saving you time hunting down what suits your project. Creating this list came with some uncertainty on my part, as I have developed a premium starter myself, which made it a challenge to remain objective and honest. but I gave it a shot.
Here are my selection criteria that focused on two key factors:
Active maintenance: last commits made within a month.
UI quality: a personal judgment.
Documentation
There are still pending boilerplates that will be added soon (next week). It's worth noting that this shortlist is not exhaustive. The Next.js ecosystem is large and constantly evolving, so there may be excellent starters that didn't make the cut or were overlooked in my search.
I expressed my views on whether to build or buy a boilerplate in a blog post. The bottom line is that each option comes with its own set of advantages and disadvantages. Feel free to read the blog post if you are curious about the pros and cons. I'm interested in hearing about your experiences with templates, whether they're on this list or not. Which ones have you found particularly useful or challenging to work with? Your insights could help refine this resource and provide valuable information to other developers.
The shortlist is now live on Nextradar.dev [just to be clear, it’s my site]. At Nextradar, I put links to high-quality content about Next.js, popular packages, OS projects, jobs, and courses that help developers stay up to date and save them time finding good content effortlessly.
Feel free to share your thoughts, and let me know if you miss something.
